HomeBenefits of Microchipping your pet
It doesn’t take more than a second for a pet to be gone!
Some pets don’t get far, others do find their way home, but for the millions of other unidentifiable pets that go missing each year the chances these pets are not returned home. Microchipping and registering your pet ensures your pet is returned to you if she/he gets lost.
How does it work?
A veterinarian injects a tiny computer chip—about the size of a grain of rice—just under your pet's skin, between the shoulder blades. Then the number on the computer chip is entered into the 24PetWatch Pet Recovery Network database. If your pet is found, any animal hospital or shelter can use a microchip reader to read the unique ID number contained on the chip. The database matches the number to your name and phone number. The chip can't be lost or damaged, and it lasts for the pet's lifetime.
Is microchipping expensive?
Not really. It's a one-time fee of $20; the chip never needs maintenance or replacement. This includes registering the chip with 24PetWatch Pet Recovery Network database. Still, microchip identification is cheaper than making flyers, calling around town, and taking time off work to find a lost pet.
Will it hurt my pet to get the chip implanted?
The procedure is simple, routine, and painless, and it doesn't require any anesthesia. Your pet simply gets an injection just under the loose skin between the shoulder blades just like a vaccination.
